Tokyo is full of gardens - beautiful, sculptured, well organised gardens.
However, the people who own and run these gardens do not want people using them for weddings. We must have investigated dozens of potential venues to host the ceremony but sadly none of them were willing to bend the rules. Weird rules that only allow people to walk around in small groups and admire the plants and trees. However, organised groups - god-forbid weddings - and certainly musical instruments are not allowed.
If I hear the word だめ！！ one more time I may scream.
For a normal couple, you pick your venue and then hand over all responsibility and planning to them and you end up with a McSame cookie cutter wedding that starts and finishes at a time that suits the venue and everything is very strict.
This didn’t sound like much fun for us!!
We wanted to put on a party for friends and family that was relaxed and reflects who we are as a couple. Music, great food, good wine, dancing and a relaxed start and finish time. So we have found a place where we can have all we want (within reason) but mostly a much more flexible attitude than we had seen from other places.
The garden in the end was not possible in Tokyo. However, I am sure we can find one in Australia for wedding part deux.

That search must have been a frustrating exercise. But, you are right, you never see wedding parties getting photos or people having any such celebration, except for cherry blossom time, at the local parks and gardens. Guess the wedding industry would lose a lot of business. Still, we have a lovely back garden with water views for a party. Love you both very much. Mum and Dad

I’m sorry that this has been such a hassle for you both, but we do have some lovelly gardens in Adelaide & even the Japanese Gardens on South Tce have some really intimate areas for weddings, so if Adelaide is your Aust choice i’m sure we can help. love k
